Replacement Crane Parts & Equipment

The Mitchell Crane Rebuild Exchange Program is a great way to save money on replacement crane parts, reduce down time and keep your machine performing at its best.

As brake bands, travel components, swing and hoist assemblies begin to show signs of excessive wear, it is time to think about repair or replacement of these crucial components.

Repairs can be costly and down time can interrupt operations at your job site and slow revenue. The Mitchell Crane rebuild exchange program is in place so you can keep your machine on the job site working until the rebuilt crane parts or assembly can be delivered.

Why rebuild exchange?

A side frame from a typical crawler crane can be removed in a few hours and re-install it in a few more hours, however the time it can take to rebuilt that side frame can be as long as four to six weeks.

On a much smaller scale a brake band may only take an hour to reline, but typically has to shipped out to a reline shop to have this work done while Mitchell Crane can supply a replacement band to fit your machine prior to you removing the old. This allows for one service call and the machine is only down for the time it takes to replace the band.

With careful inspections future replacement needs can be identified months before the integrity of the machine is compromised.

Mitchell Crane has the rebuilt replacement parts to fit your machine and can ship them directly to you before you ever begin the replacement process, therefore drastically reducing down time.

Here are a few of the key components that our rebuild exchange program can help you save time and money on:

  • Side frames
  • Brake bands
  • Hydraulic cylinders
  • Swing assemblies
  • Hoisting assemblies
  • Tumblers
  • Idlers
  • Sprockets
  • Bearing blocks
  • Brake drums
  • Clutch shoes
  • Track pads
  • Gantry
  • Inner and outer bails
  • Engines

Re-Building your own Machine

When it comes time for a major overhaul, which your shop will undertake, having Mitchell Crane rebuild some of your components can be a great way to save a little time and money by allowing your team the time to focus on the details of putting the machine back together properly without feeling rushed resulting in a better end result.

Our Rebuild Process

Whether a brake band or a hoist assembly you can be sure Mitchell Crane will do it right.

Used Parts

Used Parts are the raw product for repaired parts. Each used part to be repaired and put back into commission by Mitchell Crane is cleaned thoroughly and examined closely for irreparable damage such as cracks through webbing, excessive rust, or excessive loss of material due to wear.

Once evaluated and the repairs needed are identified the part then goes through our repair process which may include some of the following procedures:

  • Welding and drilling of holes back to correct size
  • Replacing linings on brake bands
  • Welding of bearing blocks and re-machining them for a tight bushing fit
  • Welding of bearing bosses and re-machining them for a tight bearing fit
  • Re-splined
  • Build up of wear surfaces and lugs on track pads
  • Replace track pins with over-sized pins for tight fit
  • Removing broken bolts and re-tapping holes

Assemblies & Components

When major components of a crane are rebuilt by Mitchell Crane, a unique combination of used, repaired and new parts come together to you save time and money.

Complete disassembly of all components is the starting point to determining what can be reused or repaired and what must be replaced. Safety, application of the assembly and customer budgets are other factors.

Most commonly we are looking at these key solutions…

  • Bearing replacement
  • Bushing replacement
  • Housing integrity
  • Bearing fit
  • Bushing fit
  • Seal and gasket replacement
  • Shaft and gear replacement
  • All through holes inspected for tolerances
  • Threaded holes cleaned and tapped
  • Cylinder or air chamber repair or replacement

Only once Mitchell Crane has repaired and re-inspected each used part going back on the assembly and new parts are requisitioned does re-assembly begin. With the right tools and experienced staff each assembly is meticulously re-assembled with proper fit and function being evaluated through out the process.

After reassembly, the finished product is inspected and tested for operational integrity.

Mitchell Crane's unique ability to select and bring together used parts from years of dismantling Link-Belt and American Cranes, re-machine and repair these parts, make high quality replacement parts, utilize OEM factories to supplement small parts all in one location ensures each re-built assembly is safe, fits correctly, performs well and is of the greatest value possible.
